On Wednesday, April 27, 2011, federal researches confirmed that armadillos can transmit leprosy to humans. This can have a big impact on human health because leprosy is the host of many big diseases like HIV and Aids. Two thirds of the people who get leprosy is because the have contact with armadillos. 250,000 people get leprosy after having contact with an armadillo. The leprosy virus infects 2o percent of the armadillos. Most of the armadillos don’t show the virus’ effects because they don’t live enough time to show the effects.
I liked this article because I did not know that the armadillos could transmit leprosy. It also interested me because I was curious to know why armadillos transmit this disease.
This article connects with real life because you could have contact with these animals and you could get the disease without knowing it, but now you could prevent it by handling armadillos with certain precautions, like using gloves, for example.
