On Wednesday, April 27, 2011, federal researches confirmed that armadillos can transmit leprosy to humans. This can have a big impact on human health because leprosy is the host of many big diseases like HIV and Aids. Two thirds of the people who get leprosy is because the have contact with armadillos. 250,000 people get leprosy after having contact with an armadillo. The leprosy virus infects 2o percent of the armadillos. Most of the armadillos don’t show the virus’ effects because they don’t live enough time to show the effects.

I liked this article because I did not know that the armadillos could transmit leprosy. It also interested me because I was curious to know why armadillos transmit this disease.

EARTHQUAKE, TSUNAMI AND NUCLEAR CRISIS last update march 29 of 2011

This article is about what is happening in Japan right now. On March 11, 2011, an earthquake of 9.0 magnitude and a tsunami hit the country of Japan; this earthquake has been the strongest in Japan so far. As a consequence of the earthquake, many people died and disappeared. From March 21 to March 29 there has been a nuclear crisis in Fukuchima, Japan. This crisis has developed many problems in the country because some reactors were affected by the tsunami and the water is being polluted by the reactors. The main problem is that this polluted water is going to some parts of Japan. The most dangerous reactor is reactor #3 because since March 21 the reactor has a hole, and because of the hole the reactor, which should be cold, is very hot and factory workers cannot find a way of cooling it down. This nuclear crisis is the biggest nuclear crisis that any country has had for decades.

This article interested me because this is a crisis and is known around the world. People in Japan need help and we need to help them because we never know if some time we will need help. This article also interested me because I saw many news before writing this article and every where organizations are asking for money for support and to pray for Japan, so I found connections with it. For example, last week a teacher at our school invited students to get together in her room and offer prayers for Japan, and in JMUN we also collected money to donate to help Japan overcome this crisis.

This article has connections with my life because I belong to a program that helps people in sickness and in crisis and we are collecting money to send to Japan. I like to help people and I like that people know about crises and how they can help other people.

On 22 of February, 2011 there was a 6.3 earthquake in New Zealand. This earthquake made the Tasman glacier, located in a lake, break. The earthquake lasted for one minute and had an aftershock a one-minute. Scientists think that the glacier broke because in the past days it had been raining and that made the water level of the lake go up. The increase in the water level made the glacier unstable so when the earthquake came it made the glacier break. The glacier probably had a crack before the earthquake, and this contributed to the loss of a big piece of the glacier. When the block if ice fell in the water, it made many waves, which were about 3 meters tall, and lasted for about 30 minutes.

I found this article interesting because this is something that is happening and it can happen again in another place. I think that is article is important because the global worming is making many glacier brake and know also the earthquakes braking the glacier, that means that in some point we will not have glaciers.

Health Minister confirms cases of cholera in Venezuela

This article is about the Cholera in Venezuela that was discovered on the 26 of January of 2011. the Cholera got to Venezuela because a family went on a wedding to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and got Cholera in the Dominican Republic, and brood it to venezuela. There are 21 cases confirmed on Caracas.

This article interest me because we studied diseases the last quarter and is important to know were there are dangerous diseases.
